Everyday this week, we are sharing stories about our dads. This morning, we shared the stories that would be worthy of 50 Shades of Cray.
When Julie was a kid, the fire alarm at her house would stop beeping. Even with the batteries out, a ghost signal would beep out. One day, Julie and her sister were watching their dad cutting wood outside. Beside him was the beeping fire alarm, and he was loosing his mind. He cussed and yelled at it, “Beep at me again!” And it would. Julie and her sister swore that he was about to take the axe and bash the fire alarm into tiny pieces, but he never did.
Tony remembers riding in the car with his dad to his Grandma Annabelle’s house. They’d stop at 31 Flavors for ice cream and cruise with the windows down, as you do in Southern California. All of a sudden, some guy cuts Tony’s dad off. As you can imagine, that didn’t sit well with dad, so he pulled off the exit behind the guy. Even at that young age, Tony knew well enough that it wasn’t the right exit, so he asked why his dad had turned. His dad pulled up beside the offending driver, whose windows were also down, and unleashed a tirade of fury and cuss words. All of a sudden, Tony’s dad threw his ice cone into the other car and it hit the dashboard sending ice cream everywhere. The guy was so scared that he hit the gas and ran the red light.
A few years ago, John shared an apartment with his dad, who had a bad habit of leaving the keys in the door. One night, his dad left the keys and the door cracked just a bit, enough to alarm the apartment manager who lived across the breezeway. The police were called, and the next thing John knows is that there are police with flash lights and guns in his apartment. He wanders out in his boxers and is faced with a cop with a gun telling him not to move. He explains that he lives in the apartment and asked what’s going on. The cops start beating on his dad’s door, and his dad comes out sans apparel. Needless to say, the whole ordeal was bewildering for John.
